The Leeds Library welcomes visitors into its historic building to see some of our hidden treasures, and to hear more about our plans for the future and the next chapter in the library’s unique history. No booking required – walk-ins very welcome from any time between 12 noon and 4pm!

Founded in 1768 and located in the heart of Leeds City Centre, The Leeds Library made its home in its current Grade II* listed building in 1808 and is the oldest cultural institution in Leeds, and the oldest surviving subscription library of its kind in the UK. Discover a treasure trove of books, including rare and unique editions, and the innovations that have shaped the Library’s history.

As well as an historic collection dating back to the Library’s foundation (including rare and unique books), the Library has a contemporary collection, offering access to online courses, audio books, DVDs and CDs, an eBook library, and a wide range of academic journals.
