What’s included

Gift membership includes all the benefits of regular membership plus an extra feature: your recipient will receive a gift box from us containing a special welcome letter and a library bookmark. This gift box can be posted to you, collected from the library, or, if you’d really like to surprise your recipient, we can send it to them directly.

Note: please be aware that we can send gift boxes to annual membership purchases only; taster gift memberships do not include a gift box.

How gifting works

On the application form please give details of the recipient, then, when prompted (this applies to both online and physical applications) write down your own details as the purchaser and make the payment. Payment can be made by visiting the library, by phone, or online through our website’s join online function. Once we’ve received your payment we will issue the gift box, which contains an invitation to the recipient to arrange an induction appointment. This induction includes an explanation of our services, a tour of the library, and also marks the point at which their membership will be activated.

FAQs

Can gift memberships be repeated?
Yes. When your recipient’s term of membership ends you are free to renew the membership for them.

How long does the recipient have to activate their membership?
The recipients of annual gift memberships have exactly six months from the date of purchase to visit us and activate their membership. The recipients of taster memberships have one month only. Memberships that are not activated in this window will be considered void.
