Never thought time travel was possible? Well, it is and right in the heart of Leeds! Step back 250 years with a visit to the Leeds Library, the oldest membership library in the country.

To mark its 250th Anniversary, the Leeds Library invites you to visit and explore a unique piece of Leeds’ cultural heritage, in its Through The Pages Exhibition.

The Exhibition will take you on a journey around the magical rooms of the Library with displays presenting the story of how the Library was founded and has thrived over 250 years. You will come to know our collections, artefacts and oddities as well as our resident ghost, Thomas Sternberg, a former Librarian, who walks the balconies of the Library at night. You will read members’ stories, learn about the building itself and the Library’s current work and plans for the future.

Don’t miss out on the chance to see and learn about this hidden gem of Leeds and visit parts of the Library that have never been accessible to the public before.

Open daily, the Exhibition is free to visit: Mon-Fri, 1.00-3.00pm; Saturdays (except 22/09 when the Library is closed), 11.00-1.00pm; Sundays, 11.00-3.00pm.

Why not pop in on your lunch break, drop in if you have never visited us before or book onto one of the events that will accompany this Exhibition including a children’s Book Quest every Sunday? For all our events, click here.

You don’t need a ticket for the Exhibition but it would be helpful for us if you could register. Full details are here.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Leeds Library.
