Description
Peter Meredith will talk about John Dixon and his sketch books from the Thoresby Collection.
John Dixon of Leeds deserves to be better known. He was Secretary at the Leeds General Infirmary for almost all of the second half of the nineteenth century but he spent his spare time travelling around sketching local landmarks – churches, halls, farmhouses, beauty spots – copying records and making detailed notes and drawings of architecture. The Thoresby Society is lucky enough to own a large number of his sketchbooks and drawings, many of which will figure in this illustrated talk by Professor Peter Meredith. The sketchbooks will be on display for people to look at.
