What is it really like being a minister of religion?
What is it really like being a minister of religion? How much ‘Vicar of Dibley’ dealing with dotty parishioners and how much ‘Rev’ wading through murky social dilemmas?
Laugh, frown, be amazed and argue with Jonathan Romain as he explores why being a rabbi is a wonderful job for a nice Jewish boy or girl, along with a look at the major changes in the rituals for Jewish births, weddings and funerals happening today.
Daniel Finkelstein of The Times reviewed it, saying: You’ve got to read this book….it is funny where it should be and moving where it should be and intellectually stimulating throughout.
Rabbi, writer and broadcaster, Jonathan Romain is minister of Maidenhead Synagogue. He is Chaplain to the Jewish Police Association, President of the Accord Coalition (campaigning for inclusive education) and Vice-Chair of Dignity in Dying. His latest book is The Naked Rabbi (John Hunt Publishing).
A note about accessibility – Unfortunately, our Grade II* listed building is not currently fully accessible. We have a stair lift from the ground floor foyer to the first floor but are unable to install a through-floor lift due to the building’s historic status. Please email us on enquiries@theleedslibrary.org.uk if you have any questions around access, and we will do everything that we can to accommodate you.
The Leeds Library is committed to making its building and collections accessible to everyone in our current capital building works project The Next Chapter Project. To find out more, please visit the website HERE.
