Speaking to the Shelves: Jane Eyre creative writing workshop with Becky Cherriman for the Leeds Library
I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being, with an independent will.’‘
This room was chill, because it seldom had a fire; it was silent, because remote from the nursery and kitchens; solemn, because it was known to be so seldom entered.’
‘Reader, I married him.’ (Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre)
‘I open the door and walk into their world. It is, as I always knew, made of cardboard.’ (Jean Rhys, Wide Sargasso Sea)
Use the rich settings, motifs and themes of Charlotte Bronte’s much-loved Jane Eyre as starting points for your own creative pieces and see this classic novel with new eyes. Writers of prose, poetry, script or those new to writing are all welcome to this 90 minute creative writing workshop on Zoom led by Becky Cherriman for the Leeds Library. You may want to read or re-read Jane Eyre or Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys before the workshop, but this is not essential.
This is a free workshop, however, any donations made to cover the costs would be gratefully received. To book your place and make a donation, register here on Eventbrite and you will be emailed a Zoom link on Saturday 6th February at 5.30pm for the workshop. Please check your spam as well for the email if it doesn’t appear.
