Description
Robert Dennis Chantrell was born in London and became a pupil in the office of Sir John Soane. He moved to Halifax, then to Leeds and back to London. He is probably best known for the rebuilding of Leeds Parish Church; the biggest new Church in England at that point since Wren’s St. Paul’s. He is also known for the design of gothic churches throughout West Yorkshire, including Christ Church, Skipton and St. Stephen’s, Kirkstall. In addition he is responsible for the renovation of St. Saviour’s, Bruges. He was involved in many projects in Leeds since lost, including the Philosophical Hall.
