Nowt But Verse with Seán Street and Peter Spafford

by The Leeds Library

Description

Seán Street and Peter Spafford are Hannah Stone’s guests for Nowt but Verse on Friday 17th December. Join us as usual for an entertaining lunchtime poetry chat in person in the Library and on Zoom from the comfort of your own home.

In December’s Nowt but Verse we have a double dose of verbal magic, featuring two poets who also work in radio as broadcasters and presenters.

Seán Street’s latest collection is The Sound Recordist (Maytree Press, 2021). He has written a number of prose books on sound aesthetics, the most recent of which is The Sound of a Room (Routledge, 2020). He has worked in radio for most of his life, writing and presenting documentary features for Radios 3 and 4. He is emeritus professor at Bournemouth University where his specialism is sound, and he currently lives in Liverpool. Seán will be in dialogue with Leeds based poet, playwright and composer, Peter Spafford, who specialises in the creation of socially engaged/participatory theatre projects, but has also written to commission for BBC Radio 4, for television, musical theatre, and opera. He performs his own poetry and music, often in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Richard Ormrod, and has two poetry collections: Quick (Valley Press 2016), Frisk (Yaffle). He has held writing residencies in schools, hospitals, prisons, and museums, and is Director of Words at Chapel FM.

To book your place, register on the Eventbrite link here and you will be emailed a Zoom link to the event on Thursday 16th December at 5.30pm and again at 11.30am on Friday 17th. Booking closes at 11.00am for the online event. Please check your spam as well for the email if it doesn’t appear. If you are registering for in person then just arrive a few minutes before 1pm in the Library.

This event will start at 1pm with around 40 minutes of conversation between the poets followed by 10 mins of questions from the audience with no open mic. We look forward to entertaining you with our conversation.

This is a free event with an option to donate with all proceeds going to the Leeds Library
