Mythlexia: A Skirmish with myths and legends, featuring Amina Alyal, Pam Scobie and Hannah Stone
7-9pm, including interval
Ever wondered what really happened to the Virgin Mary and Aphrodite? New takes on Daphne, Icarus, Ovid and more feature in this evening of poetry inspired by myths and legends. Three Yorkshire-based poets will share their sometimes surprising interpretations with you. There will be space for you to read, too, so look out your poem on the theme of a myth, and if you wish to book a slot on the open mic send your name to hannahstone14@hotmail.com
Pam Scobie trained as an actor before finding success as a poet; she has published two volumes of poetry with Half Moon Books/Otley Word Feast Press, The dark side of the bed and Oh, Darling Doctor Frankenstein. Amina Alyal teaches on the Creative Writing and English Literature programmes at Leeds Trinity University and has published The Ordinariness of Parrots with Stairwell Books and Season of Myths with Indigo Dreams Publishing. Hannah Stone collaborates with poets and composers and has three solo volumes, Lodestone (Stairwell Books), Missing Miles (Indigo Dreams Publishing) and most recently the inaugural Maytree Press volume, Swn y Morloi. They will be reading selected poems on myths present and past in this evening’s entertainment.
