Heritage Open Days Week – Tour of The Leeds Library

by The Leeds Library

Description

This September during Heritage Open Days’ Week, come and have a look behind the scenes at The Leeds Library – the UK’s oldest surviving subscription library!

Founded in 1768, this Library has been at the heart of Leeds cultural heritage for over 255 years, with some of Yorkshire’s most influential people among the ranks of members. The library was moved to Commercial Street in 1808 when our lovely Grade II* listed Georgian build was purpose built for us, and has been here quietly ever since.

We will be giving free tours for the public everyday during Heritage Open Days Week at 11am, except Sundays when the library is closed. Tours will last approximately 45 mins and be lead by one of our enthusiastic, experienced volunteer tour guides. Booking is essential to attend this tour as numbers are extremely limited because of the size and nature of some of the rooms.

There is also the opportunity afterwards to do a scavenger hunt around the shelves, specially available during Heritage Open Days Week only! Ask at the counter for details.
