Description
Dragnet Girl by Yorkshire Silent Film Festival.
Enjoy the effortless cool of Ozu’s homage to Hollywood gangster films.
Joji is a washed-up boxer turned hoodlum whose former glory and current infamy has won him the admiration of impressionable young wannabe hoodlum, Hiroshi – and Hiroshi’s life is going off the rails fast. Kazuko, Hiroshi’s sister, steps in, but Joji’s current girlfriend, Tokiko, senses competition…
With its film noir-ish settings of smoky clubs, pool halls, and dingy tenements, Yasujiro Ozu’s gangster melodrama is a homage to the American movies he spent so many hours watching in his youth.
Tickets are £0-£10.83. Book on the link.
