Join acclaimed author, curator and Patron of The Leeds Library, Nima Poovaya-Smith, as she talks in conversation about her new publication The Wild Cats’ Compendium. A richly illustrated book which explores the highly-individualistic personalities of the world’s cats, from Sand Cats to Andean Mountain Cats, The Wild Cats’ Compendium unites poetry and image, drawings, paintings, carvings and historic prints from artists from Britain, India, and Canada.
Born in Kodagu in Karnataka, Dr Nima Poovaya-Smith OBE is a museum curator, art historian and writer. She is known for her work on transcultural and post-colonial South Asian museum collections in Bradford.
Nima will be in conversation with Claire Chambers, Professor of Global Literature at the University of York. Claire is known for her research on Indian writing in English, especially the Bengali writer Amitav Ghosh. For over a decade, she was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Commonwealth Literature. Her latest work is an anthology of food writing from Muslim South Asia, entitled Dastarkhwan (Beacon Books, 2021) and Desi Delicacies in India (Picador, 2021).
