Description
The changing face of Leeds city centre during the past 150 years is examined in Leeds Then And Now, a beautifully-produced photographic collection compiled by Eric Musgrave. Some 68 locations, shown in archive photographs and in contemporary shots, are compared side by side. Each of the 136 images is annotated with a detailed text, giving some of the history and significance of the featured buildings.
In his talk, Eric will highlight just some of the hidden stories about buildings and locations Leeds residents and visitors pass every day, centring on images of Briggate and its immediate offshoots.
Leeds-born Eric has spent 40 years writing about the fashion and textile industries and the shops, stores, markets and arcades of the city centre are extensively covered in the hardback book. From the university in the north to Temple Works south of the Aire and from Leeds Minster in the east to Park Square in the west, the ongoing evolution of Leeds is celebrated with some impressive and evocative images.
This event is a PWYF event on the day with funds raised going to the Leeds Library. Please register your place on the link.
Doors open at 1.00pm and a pay bar serving refreshments will be available.
