Long Division from IOU Theatre

by The Leeds Library

Description

Leeds Lit Fest presents

Long Division from IOU Theatre with a new staging commissioned by Leeds Lit Fest.

A mass of broken blue-slate is strewn around the space as if washed into place by a long dried up river. As the clock chimes the hour a sequence of sixty hushed spoken exchanges, timed to the divisions of the clock, begin. Whispered phrases gather in intensity second by second creating rhythmic speech patterns that send a wash of sound rippling around the walls. Rising up from beneath the voices, a soundscape evolves, resonant of patterns in nature and cycles of growth and decay.

Drop into Mill Hill Chapel from 1-6pm, Thursday – Sunday.

This is a free event but a donation to the Leeds Lit Fest would be appreciated.

Long Division was originally commissioned by Oxford Contemporary Music and Oxford Botanic Garden. It was further developed in partnership with Salisbury International Arts Festival at Salisbury Cathedral.

Long Division has been created by IOU in collaboration with writer Louise Oliver, composer Dan Morrison and artist Chris Squire. IOU is a producing arts organisation that creates original artwork and performance, exploring the shifting ground between real, imagined and virtual worlds. From large scale outdoor performances to small-scale sculptural installations, IOU’s unique style brings together innovative engineering, traditional art forms and new technologies to produce work that aims to de-familiarise the everyday.
