Description
One of the best-loved and most vibrant spoken word nights in Yorkshire, Chelping has brought internationally renowned poets to Leeds’ now 251-year-old library. Last years guests included Joelle Taylor, Sabrina Mahfouz, Theresa Lola, Cecilia Knapp and many more.
Our May event will feature sets from Toby Campion and Louise Fazackerley, plus open mic slots.
Tickets cost £6 and are available via the link in this event.
Toby Campion
Toby Campion is an award-winning poet and playwright from Leicester. His debut collection ‘Through Your Blood’ was published by Burning Eye Books in 2017. The book is an exploration of identity, broken tradition and desperation in a Midlands city. Toby is the Director of UniSlam, a Resident Artist at the Roundhouse, and one of the first ever resident poets of the River Thames. He’s also a UK National Poetry Slam Champion and a World Poetry Slam Finalist.
Louise Fazackerley
Louise Fazackerley is a poet and theatre maker from Wigan. With work rooted in word-witchery and the working class, Louise explores the synergy between poetry and movement in a way that makes the ugly beautiful and the mundane fantastical. Expect hand-me-down dads, odd socks and your favourite pigeon. As seen, heard and read on on BBC 1, BBC Radio 3, 4, 5, and The Guardian Northerner, as well as on tour with Dr John Cooper Clarke. Louise released a double album ‘Council House Poetry’ on Matt Abbott’s Nymphs & Thugs label in autumn 2015.
Open mic
There are 6 open mic slots available, and each slot is to last no longer than 5 minutes. These can be reserved on a first come, first served basis by emailing Matt Abbott at eyup@mattabbottpoet.com.
