Our gorgeous library was founded in 1768, and we moved into our current building in 1808. Our beautifully well-preserved building is a Grade II* listed rare example of a Georgian public library. Whether you’re seeking an intimate venue for a few select guests or something larger, we offer a romantic setting for literary lovers and couples looking for a unique venue .
We are licensed to host civil ceremonies in the New Room, an extension completed in 1881. This room can seat up to 80 guests, and features a beautiful glass roof, staircase, and ornamental balcony.
Our stunning Library offers space for unique and cherished photos of your special day.
We will work closely with you to plan your day, offering a personal service for your wedding, and discussing individual needs, in order to make your day special and memorable.

Midweek weddings for summer & winter 2025
Due to significant interest in ceremonies at the library, we are offering a limited number of dates for midweek ceremonies for summer (June, July, and August) and winter (October, November, and December) 2025. These are for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at either 12pm, 1pm, or 2pm, for a two-hour use of the room.
