The cast iron gallery and staircase added to the library’s New Room in 1899-1900 was manufactured in Glasgow by James Allan & Son at their Elmbank Foundry. The ironwork cost £321.

Picture of the New Room at the Leeds Library This image is a photograph taken in July 2008 of the cast iron gallery in the Leeds Library’s New Room. The gallery was manufactured by James Allan & Son of Glasgow. The gallery was originally installed in 1899-1900. The cast iron staircase was replaced by the wooden one seen here in 1906.
