Dr Adam Hunter (1798-1843) was President of the Leeds Library 1824-1825. At that time he was a young ambitious physician who had come to Leeds after he qualified MD at Edinburgh in 1816 to take up a post at the House of Recovery. Between 1819 and 1822, he was the inaugural Secretary (jointly with C.T.Thackrah) of the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society and was instrumental in the building of the Philosophical Hall on Park Row.
