This section of the website will be used to document Commercial Street’s life and times from its first proposal in 1802 until the present day. Commercial Street is one of the most important thoroughfares in Leeds and has been inextricably linked with the Leeds Library ever since the library committee bought a plot in the then new street in 1806. The Leeds Library has occupied its own purpose-built premises in that street for over two hundred years and takes a keen interest in its history and continuing development.
